The HSE’s Stress Management Standards provides you with a practical benchmarking tool in the Employee Consultation. This is a standard tool that most sensible stress managers will be using. It provides a standard measurement that can be compared to other organisations and repeated to subsequent comparisons on effectiveness of initiatives can be made.

Identifying Benchmarks

The HSE standard employee consultation is a good basis for all employee health and well-being consultations but this should not be used alone. We suggest expanding the questionnaire to ask important questions about local issues and conditions as discussed in Employee Consultation. As many as possible of these extra questions should be clearly linked to measurable points of reference so that benchmarks can be set.

Other benchmarks could be devised using records such as sickness and absenteeism, accident, quality control, customer care, productivity, staff turnover, overtime and reworking, as appropriate to your organisation.
