CODE OF ETHICS


Boundaries of competence

Coaches shall provide their services only within the boundaries of their competence, and based on their professional education and training, study, and professional experience.


Continuous Professional Development

Coaches shall undertake ongoing efforts to develop and maintain their competence through relevant education and training. This may be by means of self-study or by attending relevant training.


Coaches shall:

a.  Operate at all times within the limits of their own professional knowledge and competence

b.  Seek to create an appropriate environment for the coaching to take place

c.  Make and honour clear agreements with clients to cover:

    - Context and agreed aims / desired outcomes for the programme

    - Role of the coach in facilitating those agreed aims / desired outcomes

    - Programme details: session duration, anticipated number of sessions, location etc.

    - Fees and payment conditions, providing fixed price quotations where possible

    - Rights of the client to limit or terminate the agreement

d.  Maintain strict levels of confidentiality with all client information, unless required by law to disclose certain information, or by agreement with client, for example; to liaise with medical professionals, therapists, etc.

e.  Not make untrue or misleading statements (for example, unrealistic outcomes from the coaching process, etc.)

f.   Not take credit for the work of others

g.  Not take advantage of vulnerable clients in any manner

h.  Avoid any conflicts of interest

i.   Maintain, store, and dispose of any records created during their activity in a manner that promotes confidentiality, security, and privacy, and complies with any applicable laws and agreements


Breaches of the Code

Where a client believes that their coach has acted in a manner that is in breach of this Code of Ethics, they should first raise the matter and seek resolution with the coach concerned.

If the client remains unsatisfied with their coach’s response they are entitled to make a formal complaint to The Coaching Room who may remove them from the list of approved coaches.
