I need a personal coach
We are often asked “what is the difference between a coach, a counsellor, a mentor and a therapist?” The following is a very general explanation of the differences:
A therapist offers a more proactive and knowledge based service than the counsellor. The therapist will often be helping mange emotional and difficult personal issues, and seeks to proactively influence the client towards change, improvement and emotional healing. The therapist is usually the most qualified.
A coach normally follows a reactive process using techniques where the client is guided to find their own solutions that will enable personal learning, change and development to occur, and thus performance to improve.
A counsellor generally offers a reactive personal service managing emotional and difficult personal issues. The counsellor will use techniques to stimulate and encourage the client to find their own solutions.
A mentor offers a more proactive service than the coach where the mentor seeks to proactively influence and improve their client’s knowledge, skills, attitudes and/or thinking. A mentor will often also be a trainer.
A Coaching Room Life Coach offers a combination of the above, combining therapy with coaching, mentoring and sometimes counselling.
