Opportunity Knocks
One of the big changes which happens to many people on or about the age of 50 is that they stop trying to meet other people’s expectations and demands. The pressure is off and the opportunity for a new start has arrived!
A lack of pressure might appear fine for reducing the stress in your life but too little pressure can be as stressful as too much pressure. You still need to seek out challenges whatever your age, however now you have the luxury of seeking out those challenges and opportunities that interest and excite you.
Redundancy
It can be a shockingly depressing event to be made redundant, especially when over the age of 50. The therapist’s advice is ‘don’t consider this a devaluation of your worth, consider it a passport to your freedom!’
IDEAS
These few ideas are worth exploring. Much will depend on your personality, knowledge and abilities, however we do suggest you keep an open mind and look at all opportunities as they arise.
“One of the many things nobody ever tells you about middle age is that it's such a nice change from being young.”
Dorothy Canfield Fisher
“For age is opportunity no less than youth itself, though in another dress, and as the evening twilight fades away, the sky is filled with stars, invisible by day.”
Henry Wadsworth
Longfellow

Public Speaking Many people make a serious living from public speaking, it’s one of those jobs ideally suited to the over 50s. If the thought of standing up and speaking scares you, why not learn from this professional. “For over twenty years, I’ve been a public speaking coach. I developed this program because I’ve helped so many highly successful and confident people to overcome their great fear of public speaking. Does the mere thought of public speaking – even to a small group – make your pulse race, your mouth go dry, your voice sound quivery, and your palms go clammy? Then welcome, bien venue, fáilte. You’ve found your solution.…”
Dr Jeannette Kavanagh Professional Coach and Presenter

“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”
Thomas Edison
